Frequently asked questions

Is Camp Horizon just a summer camp?

No! We have year-round events for the children, teens, and young adults in our programs. Our campers have to attend summer camp for at least two years before they can participate in any of our other programs, such as quarterly outings and the teen Leadership Development Program (LDP).

Why can't I see any of the campers' faces in pictures?

Many of our campers are still in state custody. The Department of Family & Children's Services (DFCS) does not allow pictures of foster children to be posted publicly to protect their identity.

I have a teenage foster child. Can (s)he participate in your programs?

Unfortunately, we do not accept new campers over 10 years old. Our summer camp is for children between 8-11 and all of our participants must attend summer camp for at least two years to be involved in any of our other programs.

I have a foster child between 8-11 years old. How do I sign him/her up?

Please fill out the Camper Referral Form located here. New campers must be between 8-10 years old and currently in state custody. If you have specific questions about a camper's eligibility, please contact our program director by emailing
